Steve LeClair was recognized at our last Parent Involvement in Education recognition ceremony for the work he does as Rochester School District’s Title I Director and Homeless Liaison. According to Tracy Walbridge and Michael Hopkins, who nominated him, these titles do not begin to describe what he does. Steve goes above and beyond his official job responsibilities to support the students and families in Rochester. On a local level Steve has helped support school efforts to create a welcoming environment for all families.
In his role as Homeless Liaison he not only focuses on homeless families educational needs but takes the time to address their social/emotional needs, referring them to community agencies and connecting parents to get their basic needs met. He volunteers his time in the Rochester community to support families to establish relationships with community providers. Steve works at the district level, leading his fellow administrators to align initiatives and programs, leveraging the differing family roles so that families are involved at all levels (from the individual child level to parent advisory committees). Steve is a leader in family engagement and his work in Rochester with families, community providers and administrators is a model that other can replicate.
