Best Practices Overview

The special education process requires that parents make informed decisions about their children’s education.  How do school professionals promote parents’ informed participation in decision-making? Currently, many health care professionals (including here in NH) are using the Shared Decision Making (SDM) model to help patients make informed decisions in their medical care. Learn more about shared decision making and how it relates to the Special Education Team process.

Schools and families around the state are finding innovative ways to strengthen family-school partnerships in special education. These successful practices are having a big impact! See some of the practices that have been shared with NH Connections on our Partnerships in Action page.

A number of parents and professionals around the state have developed Family-School Partnership Groups in Special Education. Look for a Partnership group in your area or contact existing groups to learn more.
